2 DAY SEA KAYAK COURSE OVERVIEW

This is a two-day introductory sea kayaking course. Day 1 is delivered at Charteris Bay in Lyttelton Harbour, on day two we will refine our newly learnt skills on an exploratory tour around Lyttelton’s inner Harbour.

In this course, we will introduce you to the wonderful world of sea kayaking. We will focus on paddling skills and rescues as well as how to use/maintain gear.

This is a popular course for those who have limited sea kayaking experience and would like to get some professional guidance. This course is appropriate for people that have little or no experience and would just like to give it a go.

 

SEA KAYAK COURSE LOCATION

This course is delivered in Christchurch. The meeting location is at Charteris Bay in Lyttelton Harbour, Christchurch.

 

TRAVELLING FROM OUT OF TOWN?

Lots of people travel to attend our courses and we like to make it easy. Transport could be tricky to organise if your flying or coming from out of town. Talk to one of our friendly team about our pick-up/drop off service.

Day two

On day two we will load up our sea kayaks with the gear we need for a day on the water and head out onto the harbour. We will focus on good paddle technique and boat control as well as giving you some tips to navigating coastline and staying safe on the water. We will stop for lunch on Quail Island. Throughout the trip, your friendly instructor will talk about the interesting wildlife and history of the area. This trip will set you up to paddle on your own anywhere in sheltered waters.

 

 

WHAT GEAR DO I NEED?

We provide all the necessary kayaking equipment including, sea kayak, paddle, PFD (personal flotation device), spray skirt, pump and paddle float. All you need to bring is a wetsuit and some spare clothes.

We will email you a full gear list upon booking.

We recommend holding off on purchasing any new sea kayaking gear until after the course (except wetsuit).  Why not buy new stuff? So you can optimise on your instructors’ knowledge and recommendations. (If you already own gear then please let us know)
