5 Day Summer Alpine Climbing Course March 20, 2021
Our 5-day summer alpine climbing is based in Arthurs Pass and covers all the essential skills for climbing in the mountains in summer.
Our summer alpine course will give you all the skills to climb all the classic alpine rock routes in New Zealand. Over the 5 days, you will explore some of Arthurs Pass’s most impressive peaks including Mt Temple, Phipps peak and Mt Cassidy. Our experienced local instructors will guide you towards completing a number of multi-pitch climbing and alpine scrambling routes while acquiring all the associated rope work skills required for independent travel in the mountains.
This course is delivered in the Temple Basin area, close to Arthurs Pass village (2- hrs from Christchurch). We meet on the first day at 9:00am in Arthurs Pass and after dropping our luggage at the goods lift we make way up to the Lodge. from there it’s just a short drive to Broken River or Mt Cheeseman ski fields where we access the snow. The destination for day two will be decided by the group and your instructor during the course.
To help ease congestion on the ski field access roads, we encourage participants to carpool from Christchurch, Springfield or Castle Hill Village. We’ll help set up a carpool a week or so in advance by emailing everyone.
The course finishes up at 4 pm at the car park at Mt Cheeseman or Broken River Ski fields.
What’s the accommodation like?
We will be staying in the temple basin alpine lodge situated high above Arthurs pass village. The is very comfortable with power, flush toilets, a drying room, heaters, bunk rooms, and a large common room and bar.
