2-Day Rock Climbing Course Experience the thrill of outdoor climbing while learning to lead, set up top ropes, and clean routes with confidence. / Public Courses / Rock Climbing Courses / 2-Day Rock Climbing Course Overview This popular course is designed for people who want to try outdoor rock climbing. It introduces various outdoor climbing styles, including top-roping and lead climbing. By the end of the course, you will be able to set up top ropes, lead climb, and safely transition from climbing to lowering off the route. This course is suitable for recreational climbers and those preparing for the NZOIA (New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association) Rock Leader or NZOIA Rock1 instructor awards. Course Details Course Location Our introductory climbing courses are delivered in the Port Hills, Christchurch. On the first day, we meet at the Mt Pleasant Yacht Club/Scott Park (see Google Maps). From Scott Park, it’s only 15 minutes to the climbing area. The group and your instructor will decide the climbing locations for each day, depending on the weather and the group’s abilities. We often use Albert Terrace, Cattlestop, Pop Up Crag and Rapaki Rock climbing areas for this course. Accommodation Accommodation is not included in this course. We recommend staying in Christchurch City Centre or South Christchurch. We offer a free pick-up and drop-off service from selected accommodation for those travelling from out of town (see our FAQ’s for a list of hotel pickup locations). Food This is a self-catered course. Please bring along lunch and snacks and a large drink bottle each day. There are no shops or cafes close to our training locations. Free Transport from Christchurch If You’re Travelling From Out Of Town: Free transport is available from Christchurch for those travelling to attend our courses. Check our FAQ’s for a list of hotel pickup locations. We recommend that you arrive in Christchurch the day before your course. At the end of the course, we are more than happy to drop you back at your accommodation or directly to the airport. The earliest time we can have you back at the airport is 6 pm. We have all the specialist gear & equipment available for you to borrow. If you have your own gear, we encourage you to bring it along, as it’s better to train with the gear you own. You don’t need any prior experience to enrol in this course. This is an introductory course, but if you have never tried climbing before, we suggest having a go at indoor climbing or bouldering before doing this course. How many people will be on my course? We believe that small groups are better for this type of training. So we have a maximum client-to-instructor ratio of just eight clients to one instructor. What equipment is provided, and do I need to pay for it? OENZ provides all the technical equipment for our climbing courses. Gear List What is the minimum age? The minimum age required to attend this course when a parent or guardian is also attending the same course is 10 years old. To attend this course without a parent or guardian, the minimum age is 16 years. Does this rock climbing course have minimum numbers? Yes, the minimum number for the course to proceed at the advertised price is two clients. We won’t cancel your course if we don’t meet our minimum numbers.
