This is a 2-day rope skills  & self-rescue course.

Rope rescue course

 

The focus of this course is to develop a climbers skill set to deal with problems whilst out climbing. By the end of the course, you should feel confident to perform rescues in a variety of scenarios. This course is popular with people looking to further their knowledge of rock climbing rope skills.

This course is also suitable for people working towards a rock climbing Instructor award such as NZOIA Rock1 or NZOIA Rock2 (New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association).

 

WHERE IS THIS ROPE SKILLS & SELF RESCUE COURSE DELIVERED?

This course is delivered in Christchurch at one of the many climbing areas on the Port Hills. If you would like this course to run in an area near you that please get in touch with our office.

TRAVELLING FROM OUT OF TOWN?

Lots of people travel to attend our courses and we like to make it easy. Transport could be tricky to organize if your flying or coming from out of town. Talk to one of our friendly team about our pick-up/drop off service.

 

WHAT GEAR DO I NEED?

Nothing, we have everything available to hire if you don’t own climbing gear, easy as.

If you’re planning on bringing your own gear or borrowing from a friend here’s an idea of what to bring (We’ll send a full gear list upon booking ).

  • Climbing helmet
  • Harness
  • Belay/abseil device (ATC)
  • Climbing shoes or snug-fitting sports shoes
  • Set of prussic

 

We recommend holding off purchasing any new climbing gear until after the course. Why not buy new stuff? So you can optimism on your instructors’ knowledge and recommendations and purchase the right stuff.

 

WHEN IS THE NEXT COURSE?

COURSE HIGHLIGHTS

Self-rescue

  • Prussicking up & down ropes
  • Release a jammed belay device
  • Release a jammed abseil device
  • Lowering off an unachievable climb

Peer rescue

  • Taking over belaying from an incapacitated belayer
  • Top rope rescue (NZOIA rock 1 rescue)
  • Cut-away/pick-off  rescue
  • Escaping the system
  • Abseiling with a casualty

Multi-pitch rescue

  • Multi-pitch abseil descent with an injured climber.
  • Rescue an injured lead climber and lower off multi-pitch route (NZOIA rock 2 rescue)
