Rope Rescues & Haul Systems (Crevasse & Multi-pitch Rescues) July 1, 2023
This is a 2-day rope skills & rescue course focussing on haul systems for multi-pitch and crevasse rescue.
This course focuses on developing a climber’s skill set to deal with rescue scenarios whilst out climbing, whether at the crag or in the mountains. By the end of the course, you should feel confident to perform rescues in various scenarios. This course is popular with people seeking to further their knowledge of rope rescues and haul systems.
We will cover crevasse rescue, multi-pitch haul systems, and sport and trad rescues, which all share the same basic rope systems.
This course is also suitable for people working towards a rock climbing Instructors award, such as NZOIA Rock1 or NZOIA Rock2 (New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association).
WHERE IS THIS COURSE DELIVERED?
This course is delivered in Christchurch at one of the many climbing areas on the Port Hills. We do not need snow to teach the crevasse rescue component of this course.
TRAVELLING FROM OUT OF TOWN?
Many people travel to attend our courses, and we like to make it easy. Transport could be tricky to organize if you’re flying or coming from out of town. Talk to one of our friendly team about our pick-up/drop-off service.
WHAT GEAR DO I NEED?
Nothing, we have everything available to borrow if you don’t own climbing gear, easy as.
If you plan on bringing your own gear or borrowing from a friend, here’s an idea of what to bring (We’ll send a full gear list upon booking ).
Belay/abseil device (ATC)
Climbing shoes or snug-fitting sports shoes
Set of prussics
We recommend holding off purchasing any new climbing gear until after the course. Why not buy new stuff? So you can optimise on our instructors’ knowledge and recommendations and purchase the right stuff.
WHEN IS THE NEXT COURSE?
Rock and ropes rescue courses run from November to July each year. Talk to our friendly team if you would like to organize a custom course or private training.
